Dr. David Leasure, an early leader in online higher education, has a career spanning academia and industry. Prior to earning his doctorate, David Leasure helped build AI-based expert systems at AT&T Bell Labs and later earned his PhD in computer science focusing on AI languages and automated reasoning systems.

Beginning his academic journey as an associate professor of computer science at Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi, Dr. Leasure's passion for teaching and technology merged seamlessly. He directed his efforts in the development of online education at institutions like Western Governors University, Colorado Technical University, and Jones International University where he promoted problem-based and competency-based online education.

Currently, as Professor for the First-Term Experience at the University of Maryland Global Campus, Dr. Leasure promotes relationship and skill development through coaching, and is dedicated to harnessing emerging AI models to revolutionize learning experiences. His belief that all students can learn fuels this mission.
