What engaged or excited you most about learning when YOU were a student?

I was not particularly excited about learning as an undergraduate, until I found a reason to want to learn. An opportunity to do research with a professor transformed my approach to learning and also resulted in a co-authored publication. This experience altered my senior year of college and opened the door to a completely unexpected and incredibly rewarding career path.
