The joint planning committee has searched for experienced Keynote Speakers who can address our theme while highlighting the need for all faculty, staff, administrators, and students to be enabled to engage in this work of fostering student success. We are pleased to announce two distinguished Keynote Speakers who will both speak in plenary Keynote sessions and in breakout sessions as well.
On May 24th we will hear from Dr. William Spady who is a well-known academic, educational psychologist, and sociologist. Considered the father of Outcome-Based Education (OBE), Dr. Spady is largely noted for his works that attempt to expand and enhance the philosophical grounding and performance of educators, leaders, educational systems, and learners. For 40 years he has spearheaded major efforts throughout North America, South Africa and Australia on expanding the vision, deepening the philosophical grounding, and improving the performance of learners, educators, leaders, and educational systems. Today he is applying his empowering concepts to improving leadership and organizational effectiveness in education, corporations, and the public sector through the work of the New Possibilities Network, which he founded in 2007.
"All students can learn and succeed, but not on the same day in the same way." —William Spady
On May 25th we will hear from Dr. Saundra Yancy McGuire (Author of several books such as Teach Yourself How to Learn). Dr. McGuire is the Director Emerita of the Center for Academic Success and retired Assistant Vice Chancellor and Professor of Chemistry at LSU. Prior to joining LSU, she spent eleven years at Cornell University, where she received the coveted Clark Distinguished Teaching Award. According to Dr. McGuire,
My interest has been in improving student learning by teaching students metacognitive learning strategies. I work actively with university faculty and students to increase their understanding of the application of cognitive science and learning theory to increasing student academic performance. My current interests include improving learning strategies used by university students, reform of pre-college and college teaching methods, and increasing the number of underrepresented minority and women students who are interested in and prepared to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Register Now and plan to share your experience and expertise as well by proposing a breakout session. Remember all proposals are due by March 5th. |
