As we approach the end of the fall semester and the coming celebrations amid the cold winter months your Academy Board members are working to create meaningful opportunities and experiences for you. Here are some of the most impactful opportunities coming soon.

First of all, your Board has worked with our professional Development Director, Tris Utschig, to plan a December 13th PD experience at 5pm Eastern time. We call the experience “PE in A Nutshell”. This special event focuses on connecting practical tools to the basic principles of Process Education theory, opening the door to the sophisticated world of process education. The event is open to all Academy members and guests free of charge. This event will benefit members who have only recently joined the Academy as well as experienced members with new insights and understanding about the powerful learning and performance methodologies that have been created and researched over the years.

Look for an announcement about how to register for this event in this newsletter.

Secondly, the Board has also been working on designing an Academy Winter Meeting with a focus on the future of the Academy. The traditional winter meeting will be held virtually for one day on January 4th. This gathering will serve as our official January Board meeting for 2024. During the meeting we will set the calendar for the spring semesters’ meeting dates and times. The main activities will be focused on Conference and Strategic Planning for the Academy. Ideas about internationalizing the organization, developing new programs to increase participation, supporting growth opportunities across the wide spectrum of learning will all be discussed. Every Academy member current and past is invited to join in on this important event.

The information for attending (including the Zoom link and details for registering) are also available in this newsletter.

Our annual Academy Conference will be held at the University of Indianapolis on June 11 -13, 2024. This year's theme is Unlocking Performance and Growth. Sessions will focus on the following:

  • Building lifelong skills (inside and outside the classroom)
  • Harnessing AI to enrich educational processes
  • Guided pathways to meet the needs of (all) diverse learners
  • Mentoring for improved performance and personal development
  • Becoming your ideal self
  • Applying metacognition in growth and self-growth
  • Using outcome-based assessment in program design

We will be offering a Pre-Conference Institute focused on Assessment on June 10, followed by the main Conference activities June 11 and 12, and a half day on June 13. This gathering will bring together PE practitioners to share their expertise and understanding of the power of Process Education. Conference registration and The Call for Proposals for sessions are now open on the PE Conference website. Please consider joining us face to face in Indianapolis this June. The annual Conference is our greatest opportunity to meet colleagues and share ideas about continuously improving teaching and learning.

Here are the top issues discussed at the November board meeting:

Conference Planning details (Patrick/Team)

1. The conference website has been set up

2. The call for proposals is live

3. Adjusted fees for the conference into three tiers: (1) Regular, (2) UIndy participants, (3) Inst members or 3+ participants

4. The “Hall of Innovation” planning is still in process (Matt says George will set up the technology; We’d like a face-to-face component)

Tris is planning a December PD event

Host a PD event PE in a nutshell activity

Winter Meeting Planning

Decided to hold our Winter meeting on January 4th as a virtual meeting for the Board, Directors, and all interested members. The two main activities will be focused on Conference and Strategic Planning for the Academy. There will be no charge for attendance.

New Business

We examined a new process for conducting Strategic Planning suggested by Will Ofstad, called Strategic Anchoring, based on the work of Patrick Lencioni in the book The Advantage. Board leadership will examine this process to see if it can be adopted for the Academy.
