Facilitator(s)
- Wendy Duncan, California Health Sciences University
Why?
This session introduces a framework
for how we talk with our students, our colleagues, and others in
ways acknowledge them as individuals and empower them toward
transformational change. Further, the Academy of Process
Educators is a volunteer organization, and as such can only
thrive given an environment where interaction with each other is
mutually beneficial. The way we talk impacts those interactions
and can support us in working to achieve wildly audacious
success together, yet as individuals.
Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of the activity participants will...
- Apply the seven languages for transformational
development to ourselves at work and within the Academy.
- Analyze how our own roles in the Academy can be enhanced
when placed within the context of our own goals.
- Create an action plan for oneself to use incremental
changes in the way we talk to help us pursue our own goals
and those of the Academy.
Performance Criteria
Critical thinker - Monitor the way we talk during the session to highlight the impact of the language used and share major insights about how we talk affecting how we work within the session.
Goal oriented - Be mindful of how personal goals relate to the goals of the group and of the Academy as you participate.
Plan
- Read
the assigned readings before the session for each part
of the session (Part A and/or
Part B) that you will attend.
- Answer the critical thinking questions on the forum for the session
before the session
begins.
- Actively contribute to the
discussion exercises by playing one or more team roles used in
Process Education teams.

- What is your One Big Thing (OBT)? How would making progress on your OBT would make a big difference for you personally, for your organization, for the Academy, and for your life in general? Who knows about your OBT?
- How do of these reading materials add meaning the concepts of Home, Edge, and Groove?
- Compare and contrast process education and the Home, Edge and Groove of a DDO.
- Process Educators are in fact performance educators. Traditional educators focus on creating materials, activities and a learning environment that facilitate student learning. Performance educators focus on continually improving the quality of learner performance so that students can learn faster and better in any context. What are three practices we could adopt to serve as performance educators for each other?
- What are the three most important existing structures within the PE Academy that can be adapted to be serve our DDO effort?
- What are 1-2 new structures that might need to be in place for the Academy to best support our DDO effort?
